In Irish Americans on March 15, 2013 at 8:52 pm

In 1831, a family was desperately seeking to reunite in America–or part of that family would be send back to Ireland.  It was decided that an advertisement would be written up and published in the Boston Pilot…and the rest is history.

Between 1831 and 1921, the Irish in America used the “Missing Friends” column of the Boston Pilot to find family and friends that might have been lost in the excitement and crowds of our quickly growing cities.

Thanks to Boston College, you can now search a database and access information regarding 40, 892 records pertaining to the Irish Americans.
